Carlton F. Crouse

Carlton F. “Tex” Crouse, 88, of Schuylkill Haven, died Tuesday morning at his home. 

Born in Pottsville, March 26, 1926, he was the son of the late James B. and Margaret (Maley) Crouse.

He was a graduate of Pottsville High School, class of 1945. He worked for Pomeroy’s, The Necho Allen Hotel and S&H Green Stamps.

He had a passive role in the development of the hard contact lens with the late Dr. John Collins Neill who was a professor at the Pennsylvania Institute of Optometry in Philadelphia.

Carlton was an Elder of the United Presbyterian Church of Pottsville and served on the board of Trustees. He volunteered at the Pottsville Hospital for more than 13 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Rosalie to whom he was married 51 ½ years, an infant brother James Crouse; brother Samuel Crouse; sisters Anna Kissinger and Margaret Davies; granddaughter Theresa Snitzer; and a great grandchild Wesley Monahan.

He is survived by his seven children, sons Carlton C. Crouse husband of Christine, Pottsville; James B. Crouse husband of Lisa, Harrisburg; and Joseph M. Crouse husband of Donna, Marlin; daughters Janice A. Faust wife of Guy, Pottsville; Arlene S. Bohn wife of Richard, Leesport; Judith M. Snitzer wife of Steven, Orwigsburg; and Marla J. Callaghan wife of William, Heckscherville.  He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM on Saturday, March 21, at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street, Pottsville, with Pastor James R. Fidler officiating.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10 AM until the time of service. Interment will be held on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
