Margaret H. (Hennessey) Leganza

January 15, 1934 ~ April 24, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Margaret H. Leganza, 81, Orwigsburg, entered into eternal rest Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading with her loving family by her side. 

Born in Pottsville January 15, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Clare (Brennan) Hennessy of Glen Carbon.  As a young girl she grew up in the Irish Valley of Schuylkill County in the small patch of Glencarbon and would be known as “Betsy” (a name given to her by her father).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life Stanley M. Leganza, Sr. in 1988 and a sister Clare H. Stoddard.

She was a graduate of the former Pottsville Catholic High School.  She was also a member of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven and the Ladies’ Ancient Order of Hibernians. 

Margaret was last employed by Hess Catering, Schuylkill Haven.  One of her favorite jobs was assisting her best friend and husband Stanley when they worked for Mrs. T’s.  Together they would travel the Country in a RV and do demos for the famous pierogi company.   After Stanley died, Margaret worked with her daughters at the former Jayne’s Flowers, Schuylkill Haven.   She always had a positive attitude, kind word, and a smile for everyone she met.

She is survived by sons Stanley M. Leganza, Jr. and his fiancée Jackie Krobert, Auburn; and Thomas J. and his wife Nannette, Pine Grove; daughters Annella M. Leganza, Orwigsburg; Maria E. Leganza, Pine Grove; and Clare M. Shaud and her husband Shane, Schuylkill Haven.  She is also survived by her “Grands” whom she so deeply adored; Alicia, Thomas S., Elizabeth, Brennan, Clare, Meghan and her husband Carl, and Katherine; and a sister Mary Eileen Edwards, Mt. Laurel NJ.  In addition to her children, sister and grans, she is survived by several loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday May 2 at 10:30 AM at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Schuylkill Haven with Rev. Edward Zemanik, Off.  Family and friends are respectfully invited to call Friday evening from 6-8PM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street Pottsville and again Saturday from 8:30- 9:30AM.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Queen of the Universe Cemetery.   The family asks that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation 2816 Elmwood Avenue, Erie PA 16508 and/or to St. Joseph Medical Center PO Box 316 Reading PA 19603 in memory of Margaret.
