Mary H. (Charkaway) Cuchara

Mary H. Charkaway Cuchara, 87, of Orwigsburg passed away Friday evening at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg.

Born on May 2, 1929 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Irene Rita Schmidt Charkaway.

She was a graduate of St. John School, Class of 1943 and Pottsville Catholic High School Class of 1947.

She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, the Catholic Women’s Union for 65 years, and the Over 50 Club for seniors.  A former member of the Women’s Guild, volunteered at socials, and served many years on the Election Board for Schuylkill County.

Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and being with family and friends at picnics and gatherings and worked 49 years as a folder in Bolts Factory and Phillips-Jones Co.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Stephen James Cuchara (April 2, 2000), sisters, Dolores Pauline and Roseanna Charkaway.

Mary is survived by her sons, Stephen W. Cuchara husband of Ronaleen A., Joseph A. Cuchara husband of Mary Elizabeth and widower of Faye Louise, grandchildren, Anthony Adam Cuchara husband of Susan, Dominic Stephen Cuchara husband of Leah, great grandchildren, Ava Lynn, Anthony Adam, Jr., Nicholas J. Cuchara, and anxiously awaiting the newest addition due in June.  Sisters, Florence Yeager and Betty Pauline, brother-in-law, Dominic Cuchara, and several nieces and nephews, also survive her. She also loved her pet dog Samantha.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville, Rev. David J. Loeper, off. Family and friends may call Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville.
