Richard G. Matthews

Richard G. “Dick” “Dickie” Matthews, 78, of Pottsville entered into eternal rest Thursday morning at Schuylkill Medical Center- East.

Born February 22, 1937 in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Richard and Mildred (Rist) Matthews.

Richard was a 1955 Graduate of Pottsville High School and Stevens Trade School of Drafting.  He retired from Penn Dot where he was employed as an Engineering Draftsman.

 He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; served in the US Army; a life member of the West End Hose Co., Pottsville; and the St. Clair Fish & Game.

He was an avid golfer and an avid Notre Dame fan.  His family and friends would make countless trips to South Bend to see the Fighting Irish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Virginia (Deebs) Matthews; a sister Barbara Kerico; and a brother Ray Matthews.

A loving husband, father, brother and friend, Richard leaves behind his wife Annette G. (Gavalis) Matthews whom he married May 4, 1968; a son Mark Quinn wife Donna; a brother Ron Rist; a sister Jackie McGovern; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Monday at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Sunday evening from 6 to 8 PM and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market Street, Pottsville, PA 17901.  Private interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Minersville.
