Thomas R. Quirk, 92, of Pottsville passed away Saturday evening surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Raymond and Mary (Marrah) Quirk.
He was a member of Holy Cross RC Church, New Philadelphia. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 216 of Pottsville, 32nd degree Mason; AMVETS, American Hose Co., Pottsville and FOP Lodge 44.
Thomas was the owner of Tom’s Amusement Rides. He was a Policeman for 21 years, the Chief of Police in the City of Pottsville. He later became a Schuylkill County detective for 11 years. He was a supervisor for Blythe Township in his later years.
He proudly served his country in South Pacific in 1946 serving during WWII as a Private in the US Army.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Quirk and former wife, Shirley (Pfeffer) Quirk.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Quirk, Jr., Pottsville; daughter, Patrice Quirk, Pottsville; niece, Diane Leinheiser wife of Leo; and sister, Kathleen Wassel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Holy Cross RC Church 99 N Valley St, New Philadelphia, the Rev. Ronald Minner will be officiating. Family and friends may call from 10AM until the time of mass. Interment with military honors will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery.
