James J. Hoban, 71, Pottsville, died Monday at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born September 14, 1946, in Pottsville, he was the son of the late John Patrick and Frances (Nagle) Hoban.
He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; 1964 Graduate of Nativity BVM High School; graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering; and a graduate of Wyoming Valley Machinist Tech.
James proudly served as a Staff Sgt. in the 68th Armory in the 157th Infantry Division in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was the Commander Pottsville AMVETS Post 180 from 2005-2017; and a member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1051.
He enjoyed hunting, “monkeying around” with clocks and watches, old cars, and going to the auction on a Sunday to find treasures. James could often be seen sitting on his porch listening to baseball games on the radio.
He was an avid Pottsville Maroons fan and loved the band Chicago.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers John “Jackie” and Ronald.
Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Anna Marie (Martin), Pottsville; sons John husband of Melissa, Archbald; and Jimmy husband of Amanda, Pottsville; a granddaughter, Harper Lane; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30AM Friday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Msgr. John Martin, James’ brother-in-law, will officiate. Family and friends are invited to call Thursday evening 6 PM to 8 PM and Friday morning 10:15AM to 11:15AM at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market St. Pottsville. Interment with military honors will be announced at a later date.
