Albert F. Smith, 85, of Pottsville, died Friday April 11 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
Born May 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Fred A. and Elizabeth (Maley) Smith.
Albert was a member of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and the Catholic War Vets. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Grand Knight of the Pottsville Council and Navigator of the Schuylkill Assembly.
Upon graduating from Pottsville Catholic High School he attended Penn State University and then proudly served in the United States Army during WWII in the 8th Calvary Regiment while stationed in Japan.
He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1999 after 42 years of employment. He originally began his career on the rail lines with the Postal Transportation Service.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Mary Louise Clark and a brother James Smith.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years the former Mary A. Nebrosky, Pottsville; daughters Michelle M. Smith, Anchorage Alaska and Catherine Gownley Liptok, Pottsville; a grandson Adam Gownley, Pottsville; granddaughters Jennifer Dube, Pottsville and Alex Maule, Baltimore; great grandsons, James, Keegan, and Matthew Dube, all of Pottsville and a sister Elizabeth Smith, Delaware; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebratedMonday April 21, 2014 at 11 o'clock in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. There will not be any calling hours prior to the Mass. Interment will be held in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer donations be made in Albert's memory to The Knights of Columbus - Pottsville Council.
