Obituary

Entrepreneur  and life-long resident of Pottsville,  Angela Stella, 106 years old died peacefully in her sleep at her niece's home outside of Pittsburgh, on Sunday, August 31.

Angela was born in Calabria Italy on November 1, 1907, the daughter of Michael Angelo DiCello and Giovanna Butera.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Archie Stella in 1945 and two sisters; Mary Luppino and Antoinette Papada.

She is survived by one nephew, Michael Luppino (Philadelphia),  three  nieces; Johanna Fabiani (Pottsville), Ann Marie Fetterolf (Cleveland) and Joanna Papada (Pittsburgh), Kiki,her four legged child, 16 great nieces & nephews and scores of friends and extended family who have been blessed to have been part of her life.

Mrs. Stella was an active member of the now defunct St Joseph's Parish, the Catholic Daughters of America and a member of the International Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. Her business affiliations included life-long memberships in Pottsville's Business and Professional Women's Club and the Soroptomist Club of Schuylkill County.

Angela graduated from the Cree Institute of Esthetics in New York City in 1946. Soon after opened her own studio in Pottsville as the region's first Aesthetician and electrologist. Her long list of clients came from Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC

A world traveler, Angela visited every continent except Antarctica and has seen all 7 wonders of the Ancient and the New World. She celebrated her 80th Birthday atop the Great Wall of China and has had Papal audiences with 5 different Pontiffs.

When asked what she attributes her long and healthy life to, she readily and consistently stated;

"Hard work, a diet of fruit and vegetables and living each day by the Golden rule."

Friends and family are invited to pay their respect on Thursday, September 4th between 8:30 and 9:45 AM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 6th & W. Market Streets, Pottsville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the Church of St. Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo Streets at 10:00. Interment will follow at Charles Baber Cemetery, West Market St., Pottsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hillside SPCA (a non-kill shelter) P.O. Box 233, Pottsville, PA 17901.
