Bernadette V. Kirk, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, May 7, 2017 at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle, PA. Until recently, Bernadette was a lifelong resident of Spring Garden Street, Pottsville, and Providence Place Retirement Community, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, January 24, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James Dempsey and Anna (MacNamara) Dempsey.

Bernadette was a 1945 graduate of Pottsville High School, and a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Pottsville.

Bernadette worked at the Bell Telephone Company until she married Thomas J. Kirk on October 6, 1951. Bernadette and Tom were blessed with five children and raised them in Bernadette's family home.

Bernadette loved to crochet, read, watch old movies and game shows, go to restaurants, and most importantly, spend time with her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, and friend. She was a loving, caring person who always thought of others first. She had a kind word to say about all. To know her was to love her.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Thomas; son, Patrick; sisters, Marie McGovern and Anna Newton, and a brother, Joseph Dempsey.

She is survived by daughters, Marie V. (Thomas) Nelson, Harrisburg, PA; Ellen V. (Darrel) Durham, Orick, CA; Bernadette A. (Steve) Curran, Minersville, PA; Ann M. (Lynn) Snyder, Boiling Springs, PA; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's RC Church, 319 Mahantongo St, Pottsville. Family and Friends may call Thursday morning from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's RC Church lower chapel. Interment will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
