Charles "Pete" H. Evans, Sr., 92, formerly of Pottsville passed away Friday morning at Orwigsburg Center surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pottsville February 13, 1924, he was the son of the late James and Margaret (Morgan) Evans.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, former member of the Amvets, 180 Walter Griffith, and a life member of the Phoenix Ladder 21.

Pete proudly served his country in the US Army during the Word War II. He and his late wife, Catherine, were active foster parents for Schuylkill County children & youth for several years and he was a recipient of the Harriet Tubman Award.  Pete was also a crossing guard for Pottsville School District for many years after retiring from the Pottsville Republican where he was employed for 48 years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Catherine V. (Shaw) Evans, great grandson Neo W. Evans, sisters Margaret "Peggy" Hendershott and Ruth Davenport; and brother James Evans.

Pete is survived by sons Charles H. Evans, Jr. husband of Christine (Hewes) and Jerry Evans husband of Deborah (Brokhoff); daughters Patricia Evans Ryan wife of the late Henry "Junior" Ryan and Amanda C. Weiss. He is also survived by grandchildren Alicia Marie Vincent, Henry J. Ryan III, Steven M. Ryan, Charles H. Evans III, Craig B. Evans, Andrea L. Law, and Megan E. Weiss; twelve great grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, and a sister Catherine Schaeffer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening at 8PM at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 6PM until the time of service. Interment with military honors will be held Friday at 11am in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery.
