Charles L. Sterner, 88, of Orwigsburg, passed away Monday at Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading.
Born April 11, 1929, in New Ringgold, he was a son of the late Levi and Ida Bachert Sterner.
Charlie proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Christ Church Mckeansburg, New Ringgold. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge 138 for more than 50 years, Pine Valley and DD Schall Hunting Camps.
Charlie was a man of many talents. He owned his own general contracting company for more than 40 years, enjoyed carpentry work, hunting and fishing. He was a Boy Scout leader for 15 years, coached Little League and was an umpire for several years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clarence and Levi Jr. Sterner; sisters, Eleanor Tribulla and Eva Gaston.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary L. Ryland Sterner, whom he married Sept. 22, 1951; a son, Kerry Sterner, husband of Lori; a daughter, Luann Boudreaux, wife of Danny; grandchildren, Crystal Bubeck, wife of Erik, Kyle Sterner, Justin Boudreaux and Alexis Sterner; a brother, Raymond Sterner; a sister, Mable Scheifstumpf.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Church McKeansburg, 1751 Chestnut St., New Ringgold, with the Rev. Sunny Stock officiating. Family and friends are invited to call from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Private interment will be held at Friedens Lutheran Cemetery. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to be made to Christ Church McKeansburg, 1751 Chestnut St., New Ringgold, PA 17960.
