Obituary

Doris E. (Schell) Schultz, 99, formerly of Mechanicsville, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, August 10, 2014, at Seton Manor, Orwigsburg, where she was a guest for a short time.

Born in Pottsville on November 1, 1914, she was a daughter of the late John and Katie (Dull) Schell.

Doris attended Pottsville Area High School and was a homemaker raising 6 children. In 1962, Doris began working at Mootz Candy Store in Pottsville, where she worked for 35 years until she retired at the age of 83. She was a fixture at Mootz's so much so that they named a candy after her, the "Doris Doll". Even her work area where she packed candy for wholesale orders was dubbed affectionately as "Doris's table".

She was a long-time member of St. John the Baptist Church, Pottsville, and the St. John's Catholic Women's Union. Doris was the last living charter member of the Mechanicsville Ladies Auxiliary, serving as a Trustee for many years.  She was a Brownie Troop leader in Mechanicsville in the 1960's; and was very active in various community efforts in Mechanicsville where she served on the election board.  Doris was a dedicated Phillies fan (win or lose).  She enjoyed gardening, shopping with her daughters and granddaughters, baking, and the David Letterman show.  She loved spending time with her family, particularly with the great grandchildren and the great-great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vincent J. Schultz, who passed away April 28, 1982; an infant son, Kenneth Schultz in 1943; a son, James B. Schultz, who passed September 20, 1991, and a grandson, Richard V. Schultz, Jr., on October 9, 1980.  The last member of her immediate family, Doris was preceded by four sisters, Catherine Hughes, Marion Keefer, Gladys Shore, Georgine Nagle, and three brothers, John, Kenneth and Harry Schell.

Surviving are three loving daughters, Kay Ann Russell and her husband, Robert, Schuylkill Haven, with whom she resided for the last 6 years; Edith McDonough, Schuylkill Haven; Doris Jane Umberger and her husband, Edward, Schuylkill Haven; two loving sons, Richard V.
