Edna M. (Lewis) Walaitis, 83, of Pottsville, died Tuesday morning at her residence.
Born October 6, 1931 in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late George and Rosalie (Kanopka) Lewis.
She was employed by Hamilton Watch and Armstrong Corp. in Lancaster before accepting a job as a domestic house engineer. Edna proudly volunteered at the Pottsville Senior Center for 20 years, receiving the presidential medal for no missed time for her volunteering. She also volunteered at Saint Joseph Center for Special Learning, Pottsville.
She was a member of The Salvation Army, Pottsville and a former member of Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John M. Walaitis Sr., four brothers, Bernard, Hank, Francis, George, Jr. Lewis and a sister, Marion Lewis.
She is survived by her son, John M. Walaitis, Jr., four daughters, Rosanne M. Burock, Cynthia M. Walaitis, Suzette M. Slapelis, Jennifer M. Walaitis, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, sister, Isabel Kelly, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11AM Monday, November 24, 2014 at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 9 AM until time of service at the funeral home with Leroy Walter officiating. Internment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Salvation Army, 400 Sanderson St, Pottsville, PA 17901.
