Edward G. Smith, 77, of St. Clair, entered into eternal rest Friday evening at Schuylkill Center where he had been a guest.
Born March 16, 1939, in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Vincent J. and Agnes (Bauer) Smith.
Ed was a 1957 graduate of Nativity BVM High School and a 1958 Graduate of the former Ford School of Business, Pottsville. After graduation from school he joined the US Marine Corp and proudly served his country. Prior to retiring in 1998, he was the Senior Vice President of Finance for J.E. Morgan Knitting Mills.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville and a member of the former Immaculate Conception RC Church, St. Clair and the church's Holy Name Society.
In 2003, Ed was selected by the Democratic party of Schuylkill County to run for County Controller. He was a diehard Notre Dame fan and loved watching sports, especially his grandsons Little League games.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Robert Smith; and a sister Agnes Trout.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, Dolores "Dolly" (Futchko) Smith, to whom he celebrated 51 years on June 26. He is also survived by sons Edward G. Smith, Jr. husband of Amy, Duryea; Robert Smith husband of Susan, Pottsville; sister Maryann Holley, Pottsville; his grandchildren and best buddies, Olivia Smith, Duryea; Brandon and Andy Smith, Pottsville; dearest friend Ceil Kastrava; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30AM Wednesday at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville, Rev. David Loeper, Off. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Tuesday evening from 6 to 8PM at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home with additional calling hours Wednesday 9 to 10 AM. Interment with military honors with be held at St. John the Baptist RC Cemetery, Pottsville.
