Harold E. "Gunk" Steidle, 91, of Mechanicsville, died Saturday morning at the Schuylkill Center.

Born in Rauch Creek on April 7, 1923, he was a son of the late Harold and Lula Boe Steidle. He was a 1942 graduate of Pottsville High School. On April 8, 1950 he married Dorothy M. Derr Steidle, who survives.

He was employed by Aloca as a machine tool operator, retiring in 1977. He was a veteran of the Army Air Force, serving in World War II. He was a member of the Mechanicsville Fish & Game and the Retirees Association of Alcoa. Gunk was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marl and Robert; a sister, Hannah Edmonds.

In addition to his wife Dorothy of 64 years, he is survived by: three nieces, Sharon and her husband Bruce Heckman, Linda and her husband Dale Williams and Robin and her husband Thomas O'Donnell; and a nephew James Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM from the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 6 ^th & W. Market St., Pottsville, with Rev. Harold Hand officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 AM until time of service. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.
