Howard J. "Gus" Gustafson, 100, formerly of Port Carbon died Monday morning at Providence Place, Pottsville.

Born July 22, 1915 in Ithaca Nebraska, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Emma (Johnson) Gustafson.

He had worked for the Reading Railroad and later retired from Conrail. He was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Port Carbon and proudly served in the US Army during WWII.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Rita B. (Donaldson) Gustafson who died October 6, 1993; brothers Robert, Lawrence, Duane and Orville; and a sisters Helen Challquist, Ruth Sherfey, and Edith Hanson.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12PM Friday at St. Stephen RC Church, Port Carbon. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 11AM to 12PM at the church.
