Joan Marie Chaplick, 74, of Pottsville passed peacefully on Tuesday at Rest Haven Nursing Home.

Born in Pottsville on November 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Cavanaugh and Margaret (Griffin) Cavanaugh.

Joan was employed by Honeywell formerly Allied Chemical/Signal for 30 years. She then began working with children at Perception Training Center for two years in Pottsville. Throughout her life and in her retirement she enjoyed family, friends, gardening, swimming, and her love for baking.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brother, John Cavanaugh and sister, Ruth Evans.

Joan is survived by daughter Joan Dixon (late husband Kevin), Minersville; son Robert Chaplick (wife Lynn), Pottsville; daughter Denise Chaplick, Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Vincent (Buddy) Cavanaugh and Elmer (Pug) Cavanaugh both of Pottsville; grandsons Timothy Chaplick and Kenneth (Cruz) Dixon, both of Pottsville, PA; and nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Church, Fourth and Mahantongo Streets, Pottsville, with Monsignor O'Connor officiating. Family and Friends are invited to attend calling hours at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
