Joanne M. Tucci, 72, a resident of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 27th, 2026, surrounded by her family at her daughters home in Schuylkill Haven.
Joanne was born on February 5, 1954, a daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Hein) Marx. She was a 1972 graduate of the Pottsville High School. She was a long time employee of Cabela's in Hamburg, being one of the first employees hired to set up and open the store. A member of St. John the Baptist Church in Pottsville, Joanne was also a lifelong home maker who loved to cook and garden. She found beauty in nature and loved going for long walks. She enjoyed music, jigsaw puzzles and Bingo but she was most happy when with her loved ones. She believed that time spent together is the best gift one can give.Joanne fought a long battle with leukemia. There was no medical explanation for the way she repeatedly beat the odds. Her reasoning was that smiles and hugs were the most powerful medicine.
The family would like to thank her medical teams at Geisinger Danville, Knapper Clinic, Pottsville Cancer Clinic, Good Shepherd, and St. Luke's Orwigsburg Hospice. Their dedication and commitment were vital to her ongoing well being.
It is impossible to summarize how caring of a person she was. The only ones to truly understand are those who were blessed to know her kind heart. Her life was devoted to her family and making life better for everyone she met. Joanne's last wish is for us to think of good memories with her and smile.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Derr. She is survived by her children, a son, Joseph F. Tucci, Jr., and his wife Angela of Pottsville and a daughter, Jennifer, wife of John Sanders of Schuylkill Haven. A grandson, Joseph F. Tucci, III and his fiancée, Kiana, also survive.
Joanne is also survived by her siblings, Patricia Heffner, Joannie Searle, Gloria Cappella, Thomas Marx, Karen Motley and Chris Marx, along with many nieces, nephews and godchildren. She is also survived by her former husband, Joseph Tucci, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St, Pottsville, at 10 AM on Monday, November 2nd, 2026. A viewing will be held on Sunday afternoon at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 West Market Street, Pottsville from 3-5 PM, and again on Monday morning from 9-10 AM at the church prior to Mass.
Joanne will be laid to rest immediately following mass at St. John's Cemetery in Pottsville.
