John R Weiss, 60, Pottsville died Monday at Schuylkill Medical Center – South Jackson, Pottsville.

Born in Pottsville, May 9, 1954, he was the son of the late Robert Weiss and Mildred (Saylor) Salle, Pottsville.

John was a graduate of Nativity B.V.M. High School, Pottsville and a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville; the EAGLES 134; American Hose Co.; and the Teamsters Union. John also served as state constable and was employed by Greater Pottsville Area Sewer Authority. He served in the US Army and the National Guard. His favorite past time was scuba diving.

He was preceded in death by a son John R. Weiss and a brother Lewis "Rick" Weiss.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Leo J. Salle, his loving wife of 11 years, Linda S. (Smoot) Weiss; son, Robert Weiss, step son Stephen Smoot;  daughter, Jamie Reed fiancée of Matthew Allison;  step daughter Jamie Lutz wife of Dale; siblings, Stephen Weiss, Leo Salle Jr., Kathy Vernay, Debbie Kubeika, Barbara Pelansky, Robert Smoot, Bradley Smoot, and Brian Smoot. He is also survived by 2 grandsons and 9 granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday January 29 at St. Patrick RC Church, Pottsville, Rev. Brian Miller will be officiating.  Family and friends are invited to call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday evening and Thursday morning from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 W. Market St., Pottsville.   Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville.
