Margaret "Peg" J. Shelhamer, 79, of West West Terrace, passed away Monday evening at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest, Allentown, after a sudden illness.

Born in Minersville on August 6, 1937, she was the daughter of Margaret and Franklin Meyers.  She was a 1955 graduate of Minersville High School.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Peg retired from the Pottsville Free Public Library.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her children: Gwen and her husband, Leonard Matz; Mark and his wife Margaret "Maggie"; Jill and her husband Ron Kauffman, Harper's Ferry, W.V.; and Kurt and his wife Alene; nine grandchildren, Ashley Matz, Samantha Shelhamer Hardy, Jessica Shelhamer, Heather Shelhamer, Zachary Shelhamer, Meagan Kauffman, Rachael Kauffman, Noah Shelhamer, Ethan Shelhamer; and two great­-grandchildren, Adalyn and Mark Hardy.

In addition to her husband, Thomas, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Friday at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. The Rev. Harold Hand, off. Friends may call from 7PM-9PM Thursday evening and Friday morning 9AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven.
