Martha E. Steinheiser, 99, of Pottsville died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.
Born in Pottsville on August 25, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Margaret A. (Roberts) Jeffries. She was a member of Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville and attended church every week.
In 1960 Martha was hired by United Cerebral Palsy of Schuylkill County and was the first person within the organization to work with adults with disabilities. After several address and position changes within the agency, Martha's final role was Office Manager at UCP's Adult Workshop located in Pottsville. She was the first person there every morning, regardless of weather, to make sure the doors were open for the clients that attended the program. She remained there until age 87, having dedicated 42 years of service to individuals with disabilities.
In addition to her parents Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril Steinheiser, who died in 1974; and a brother, Kenneth Jeffries who died in 1944.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Our Lady of Calvary Chapel, with Deacon Jack Quirk officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 6 th & W. Market St., Pottsville is entrusted with the arrangements.
