Patricia L. Mahoney, 64, a resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 8th ,2026 at the Geisinger-St. Luke's Hospital in Orwigsburg.Patsy was born in Fayetteville, NC on June 9, 1961, a daughter of the late Herman and Patricia (Pope) Newell.
She married her husband, Patrick Mahoney and became a military wife, traveling throughout the continental United States and Germany during his career, before settling in Colorado after his retirement from the military. They spent several years in Colorado while Patrick worked as a police officer, eventually retiring as a detective from the Colorado Springs Police Department. It was then that the Mahoney family returned to the Schuylkill County area, where they continued to raise their family.
Patsy was an avid photographer and gardener, who also enjoyed animals, puzzles and reading. She loved children, especially her own, being a proud mother of six.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Brandon in 2012, and an infant son Christian, at birth.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Patrick Mahoney, along with their children, Michael and his wife Megan; Matthew; Amanda; Patrick and Edward. A granddaughter, Millie also survives as does a brother, Hal Newell and a sister, Ruth, wife of Harry Troutman. along with one nephew.
Patsy is also survived by her miniature Jack Russel, Minnie.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 West Market Street, Pottsville, at 11 AM on Thursday, January 15th, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service.
