Obituary

The Reverend Anthony M. Drouncheck died on 21 August 2026. He was 67 years of age.

Born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Father Drouncheck is the son of the late Michael Drouncheck and the late Emma (Spinille) Drouncheck. Father Drouncheck is survived by his brother, Michael Drouncheck, and nephews Matthew Drouncheck, Mark Drouncheck, and Eric Drouncheck, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.

Father Drouncheck attended Pottsville Area Elementary School and Pottsville High School, Pottsville. He matriculated to Allentown College of Saint Francis DeSales, now DeSales University, Center Valley, while being formed for the Priesthood at Brisson Seminary. After attaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy he continued his studies at Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton, where he attained a Masters in Divinity. He was ordained to the Priesthood on 3 June 1989 by His Excellency, Most Reverend Thomas J. Welsh, at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena, Allentown.

Father Drouncheck served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Peter Parish, Coplay, Saint Ignatius Loyola Parish, Reading, Saint Catharine of Siena Parish, Reading, and Holy Guardian Angels Parish, Reading.

Father Drouncheck also served as a Counselor and later Director of Spiritual Activities at Holy Name High School, Reading, and a Professor of Theology at Reading Central Catholic High School, Reading.

Father Drouncheck also served as Chaplain, Precious Blood Convent, Shillington. He later served as Chaplain, Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem, as well as Chaplain, Saint Luke’s Home Health and Hospice, Bethlehem.

Father Drouncheck’s first assignment as Pastor was at Saint Peter the Fisherman Parish, Lake Harmony. He also served as Pastor of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish, Nesquehoning, and later at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Catasauqua.

During the course of his priestly ministry, Father Drouncheck was a member of the Social Action Bureau Advisory Board. He was also a member and later President of the Diocesan Board of Education.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, 27 August 2026, at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 319 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville, Pennsylvania, by the Most Reverend Alfred A. Schlert, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Allentown. Reverend Monsignor John J. Martin, Pastor Emeritus, Saint Peter Parish, Coplay, will serve as the Homilist. In addition to Monsignor Martin, Principal Concelebrants include: Reverend Monsignor William F. Glosser, Vicar Forane of the Schuylkill Deanery and Pastor, Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Saint Clair and Holy Cross Parish, New Philadelphia; Very Reverend Eugene P. Ritz, Vicar Judicial and Vicar for Clergy; Reverend John M. Gibbons, Pastor, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Allentown, Reverend Monsignor Victor F. Finelli, Pastor, Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, Orefield and Judge, Diocesan Tribunal; and Reverend John S. Pendzick, Pastor, Saint Patrick Parish, Pottsville.

Calling hours will be held at Saint Patrick Church, Pottsville from 9:30a.m. until the time of the funeral.

Father Drouncheck will be laid to rest at Calvery Cemetery,  Pottsville, Pennsylvania, immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial.
