Obituary

Vincent J. Cavanaugh, 77, of Pottsville, passed away Monday at his residence.

Born in Port Carbon Oct. 25, 1936, he was the son of the late Elmer and Margaret Griffin Cavanaugh.

Vincent was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. He served in the United States Army as a military policeman and was in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a cross country truck driver for over 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Josephine Hahner Cavanaugh; a son, James Cavanaugh; a brother John Cavanugh and sisters, Ruth Evans and Joan Chaplick.

Vincent is survived by his sons, Vincent Cavanaugh, Shamokin Dam; Richard Cavanaugh, Orwigsburg; daughters, Michelle Massari, Pottsville and Melissa Dissinger, Schuylkill Haven; seven grandchildren, a great grandson, and a brother, Elmer Cavanaugh, Pottsville.


Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 913 Mahantongo St, Pottsville, with the Rev. David J. Loeper officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. Family and Friends are invited to attend calling hours at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home 6th & West Market Sts., Pottsville on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

The family would prefer memorial contributions be made to The American Heart Association, 968 Postal Road, Suite 110 Allentown, PA 18109 and/or St. John the Baptist Church, 10th and Mahantongo Streets, Pottsville, PA 17901. Online condolences can be left for Vincent at TributesOfLife.com.
