William P. Zaharis, 67, of Pottsville, entered into eternal rest Friday afternoon at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Fountain Springs, Oct. 22, 1947, he was a son of the late Thomas P. and Frances Logothetides Zaharis.

He was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School. He attended Penn State University, where he was a member of the Flagship class, and was a graduate of Lehigh Carbon Community College.

He served in the Army Reserves during theVietnam War.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, and was very active in many of the church's activities, including the choir.

He was a sixth-degree black belt masters in tae kwon do and a second-degree black belt in go ju ru karate.

He owned and operated Oriental Martial Arts Center, Minersville, and the former Pop's Arcade at King's Village, Minersville.

He was a member of the Majestic Performing Artists. He had a love of music and the arts. He could often be heard singing a tune. He had a love of karaoke and would often perform in venues while he was traveling abroad for work.

Prior to retirement, William was employed as director of manufacturing and international sourcing for Sara Lee Corp. He also worked at the former J.E. Morgan Knitting Mills Inc.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Mia Zaharis, in 2011.

William is survived by the love of his life, Patricia A. Kurtek Zaharis, with whom he would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in May; a daughter, Jennifer Marie Andruchek and her husband, JP, Minersville; a son, William Thomas Zaharis and his wife, Jacqueline, Minersville; a daughter, Kristin Marie Zaharis-Reed and her husband, Don, Saint Clair; five grandsons, Skylar, Connor and Ryan Andruchek and Zachary and Parker Zaharis, all of Minersville. He is also survived by a sister, Nikki Kosmos, Canada; his mother-in-law, Anna Kurtek, Pottsville; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. David Loeper officiating. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 to 10 am. Thursday at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist RC Cemetery, Pottsville. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in William's memory to "Be the Match" National Marrow Donor Program, 3001 Broadway St. NE, Minneapolis MN 55413-1753 or St. John the Baptist RC Church.
