Allen Maurer Obituary

Allen G. Maurer, “Buddy” 78, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Wednesday evening, August 19, 2020, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill- East, Pottsville.

Born in Hegins Township on August 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Allen C. and Maude (Klinger) Maurer.

He retired from the Pottsville Hospital where he worked for many years as a member of the janitorial staff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Queen Holmes and her son Mark Holmes.

He is survived by his sister, Velma Breidigan, Orwigsburg; nieces Debbie Gilbert, Pennie Fisher, and Laurie Breidigan.

He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Elks Club, Pottsville.

He coined the phrase, “How you?” whenever he would see a friendly face.

Buddy was born with mental challenges, which were difficult at times, but he prided himself by working every day and being independent. He lived most of his life as a Pottsville resident. He loved to socialize after work with his co-workers; his favorite place being Julian’s tavern. You could also find him everyday drinking coffee at Dunkin Donuts. He faithfully played the daily number as well as going out to dinner with his family on Friday nights. Cantankerous at times, Buddy was a generous and loyal friend.

His family would like to thank all those who knew Buddy and took care of him and his well-being when he was out and about, as well as his caregivers, for the respect they gave him every day.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held in Church of God Cemetery, Valley View. Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville has been entrusted with the arrangements.
