Bruce R. Heckman, 76, of Windsor, formerly of Pottsville, passed away on Thursday, March 28th, at WellSpan York Hospital.
Born on July 16, 1947, he was the son of the late Alfred and Ida “Dot” (Murray) Heckman.
Before graduating from Pottsville Area High School in 1965, Bruce enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving from 1965-1968 where he served as a Radar Man on the USS Mullinnix DD-944 and completed 2 tours in Vietnam. Upon leaving The Navy, Bruce worked as a Quality Control Inspector for over 42 years for GenCorp Inc./Reneer Films, Auburn. He was a life member of the former Greenwood Hill Fire Company and a member of the Yorkville Hose Company. Bruce was a handyman and was known for being able to fix anything. Bruce also coached minor league baseball when his son was growing up. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, where he served as an Usher.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brother, Ronald Heckman and infant brother, Alfred.
Surviving is his loving wife, Sharon (Edmonds) Heckman; loving son, Rick Heckman and wife Tammy; loving daughter, Dr. Kristin Heckman; grandchildren, Kloee, Niloahs, and Hannah, sisters, Nancy Depsky and Linda McNitsky; brother, David Heckman, several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 4th, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch Street, Pottsville, with Pastor Chris Rothharpt officiating. Calling hours from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Interment Services and military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, on May 6th, at 10:00 A.M. Please meet at the cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or The Wounded Warriors Project.
