Earl M Shoener

Earl M. “Tut” Shoener, 92 of Pine Grove, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg.  

Born February 16, 1928 in Valley Furnace, he virtually spent his entire life in Pottsville.  He was the son of the late Samuel and Alice (Wolfe) Shoener.

The last two years Earl lived with his God daughter, Michele, her husband, Lee, their children and their English Mastiff in Pine Grove.   Earl was also a sports fanatic, he loved watching football, baseball and golf. He was an avid fan of Eagles, Penn State Nittany Lions, Phillies, PGA Golf and Pottsville Crimson Tide spectator of any sport.

Earl proudly served his country during the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He retired as a United State Postal mail carrier in 1990.  

He was a proud Charter Member of Walter L. Griffith AMVETS Post 180, past member of the VFW, Pottsville, and Cressona American Legion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Leona E. “Sis” (Adams) Shoener; brother, John Shoener; sisters, Mary Stanchick, Roberta Sumoski, and Anna Schappel.

He is survived by his step-son, Edward H. Robbins and his lifelong partner, Glenn, FL ; god daughters, Michele M. Mills-Yom wife of Lee, Pine Grove, PA  and their children and fiancees, Joshua and Brielle, Philadelphia, PA, Brandon and Cassandra, Reading, PA, Gabrielle Yom, Harrisburg, PA and Siandra Yom of Reading, PA ; God Daughter Nancy Noel-Piel wife of Gary, Ocean View, DE; dependable friend, Ricky Hause; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, 515 W. Market St., Pottsville. Family and friends may call from 9:00AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held in Mt. Peace Cemetery, Minersville.
