Janice M. (Boris) Downey

Janice M. Downey, 87, Pottsville, died Friday morning at Schuylkill Center Genesis Eldercare.

Born October 9, 1931, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late John and Ida E. (Bedford) Boris.

She was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and Reading School of Nursing.  Upon graduating from nursing school, Janice continued her career as a registered nurse for 40 years.  Thirty-nine of which were spent working with the patients at the former Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville and one year at the Reading Hospital.

She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville; and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. 

In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald W. Downey, Sr. (1990); son Gregory (2000) and her brother Ronald Boris.

She will be dearly missed by her children, sons Ronald husband of AnnMarie, Pottsville; Anthony husband of Marie, North Canton OH; and John husband of Erin, Coronado CA; and daughter Janice Hosler, Pottville;  grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, Nicholas, John, Logan, Braden, Mariana, Hanna, and Olivia;  great grandson Lucas; sister Carol Rowan, Friedensburg; and her nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday November 13 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville with Pastor Chris Rothharpt, Off.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Monday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the church and again Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of service.  Interment will follow on the grounds of Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
