Joan M. Thomas

Joan M. Thomas, 76, of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024.

Joan was born in Pottsville on May 9, 1947, a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Popnick) Wassell. She grew up in MaryD and was a 1965 graduate of Marian Catholic High School.

In her younger years, Joan worked as a beautician and in the garment industry.  Joan had a sweet tooth and enjoyed sewing, baking, and watching the Lifetime Movie Network.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, David Thomas; brother, John Stencavage; and sisters: Theresa Large, Helen Briesch, and Christine Johnson.

She is survived by her children: Christy Collins and her husband, Charlie of Pottsville; Joanie Thomas and her fiancee, Herb Bohr of Lebanon; and David Roman and his wife, Lorraine of Frackville; two grandchildren: Cayleigh Collins and Jessica Heckman; two great grandchildren: Michael Heckman and Alissa Heckman; a sister, Anna Flail of McAdoo; nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial service at 11 AM on Saturday, April 27th at The First Baptist Church, 701 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville. A time of visitation with Joan's family will be from 10-11 AM at the church prior to the service. Joan will be laid to rest at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Pottsville following the service.

Joan's family will provide flowers, and in lieu of flowers her family asks that you make a contribution to the charity of your choice in her memory.
