John E. Dougherty, CPA, 87, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.
John (Jack), the son of William and Agnes Dougherty, was born and raised in Pottsville, Pa. He graduated in the class of 1952 from Pottsville High School and was active in sports and academics. He continued his education, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated with highest honors in his Business class from Lehigh University.
In 1957, he married his High School Sweetheart, Jacqueline Joulwan, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. He worked with a national accounting firm in Philadelphia and New York before he and his wife moved back to Pottsville where he established the accounting firm of Dougherty & Co. with offices in Allentown, York, and Maryland. Jack and Jackie raised their five daughters, Anne, Patricia, Jacqueline, Carolynn and Eileen in Pottsville and were members of St. John’s Church, where he sang in the choir. Active in the business and social communities, Jack loved his family and his accounting profession.
In 1985, he and his wife moved to Florida. Reluctant to relax in retirement, he found himself continuing to faithfully practice accounting for 30 more years. His love for family and clients superseded golf and tennis.
He is survived by his wife Jackie, 5 daughters, 5 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, and brothers Robert and William.
