Margaret “Marlene” (George) Kriner, 85, of Norwegian Twp., passed away Saturday, August 21, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Minersville on May 13, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Clara (McClure) George.
Marlene was a 1954 graduate of Minersville Area High School where she had a permanent place on the Honor Roll. She loved music and played the violin and piano in the High School Orchestra. She went on to become a Registered Nurse, graduating from The Reading Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Pottsville until after the birth of her fifth child, Paula. After Paula’s diagnosis of PKU, Marlene became a fierce advocate for those with mental and physical disabilities. In 1973, she began working as an Early Intervention/Infant Stimulation Developmental specialist and home visitor at United Cerebral Palsy (now Avenues) at Agricultural Park, Pottsville until she retired in December 2006. After her retirement, she served on the Avenues Board from July 2007 until July 2019. She loved her work, made many lifelong friends there and touched the lives of many parents and children.
She married the love of her life on May 24, 1958. Over the next ten years, they welcomed five children into the world. Her children and grandchildren were everything to her. She loved to dance and we would often find her and our Dad in the kitchen dancing to polkas. She enjoyed listening to Elvis music and especially loved singing in the Senior Choir at Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved to read--there was always a stack of books she was working on. She enjoyed travelling especially on trips to Canada and always enjoyed going antique hunting with our Dad. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and always asked “When am I going to see you again?” She especially loved the seasons of Easter and Christmas and her beloved Trinity Lutheran Church.
She loved spending time on her back porch watching birds and the ever changing clouds. She loved her flower gardens—especially her lavender plants. Hope Hill Lavender Farm was a very special place to her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Ronald A. Kriner and infant brother, Nelson.
Marlene is survived by sons, Todd Kriner, Lehighton, PA, David Kriner, Macomb, MI and Dr. Ronald M.
