Elizabeth L (Smith) Gustitis

Elizabeth L. “Betty” Gustitis, 89, Pottsville, died Friday at Lehigh Valley Medical Center- East Norwegian Campus. 

Born February 16, 1928, in Pottsville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Goodman) Smith.

Betty was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville.  She was a 1945 Graduate of Pottsville Area High School.  After graduating she worked for Bell Telephone as a telephone operator until she became a wife, mother and homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter Joanne Kressel (2005); daughter in law, Abigail Gustitis  (1995); brother, Joseph Smith; sisters, Florence (Sister Rosemarie S.C.C.), Mary Smith, Dorothy Muldowney, Geraldine Haney, Ruth Murphy, and Rosemarie Rebuck.

Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eugene J. Gustitis, Pottsville.  They were married June 10, 1950.  She is also survived by a son, Eugene Gustitis (Nancy), Chester Springs PA; daughters, Elizabeth Elko (Patrick), Bettendorf, Iowa; Annette Lisowski (John), Pottsville; son in law Terrence Kressel, Flagstaff, AZ; and a sister Esther T. Smith.

She is also survived by grandchildren Patrick Elko (Allison); Dr. Lucinda Elko-Simms (Charles); Anna Burns (John); Theresa Kressel (Jeremy); John Lisowski (Hannah); Krista Stump (Seth); Gregory Gustitis (Marcy); and Kyle Lisowski; great grandchildren Jacob and Luke Elko; Gloria Lisowski; and Liam, Norah and Delaney Burns; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday June 24 at St. John the Baptist RC Church, Pottsville, Rev. David Loeper, Off.  Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 8:30AM to 10:30AM Saturday at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home 515 West Market St. Pottsville PA 17901.  Interment will be held in St. John the Baptist RC Cemetery.
